Dealing with Stress In Management<br />
There is no doubt that as you progress in your career into management, you‘ll have to take on more responsibility and this can mean dealing with more stress on the job. If you are to be a success, you do have to know how to handle stress and this can be challenging especially when you are managing others for the first time. The pressure originates from two ends: not merely from the staff you manage but also from individuals in management above you. It is a vital leadership skill to be able to thrive in these situations and if you can do that, you will have a greater chance of long term success.

One of the first skills you must develop to make your role easier is effective planning and learning to concentrate on the crucial duties that demand your attention. As a manager it is your job to get your group to do the work under your management and direction, so finding out how to delegate is essential. The members of your team should feel that they can rely on you for help, but they also have to respect your judgment as to the how and when of it. You may have to educate your staff to your thinking on this matter, and also call on more experienced and senior team members to provide help where they‘re able to.

It is inescapable that you will sometimes be called on to make decisions that your staff members don‘t like, though the causes could be outside your control. A difficult situation could then arise, where you need to fix issues with employees who feel hard done by. The simplest way to deal with these situations is to be open and straightforward, and to accept from the start that not all decisions will be havening popular and you can‘t change that. Disputes can sometimes entail strong words being used; these should be forgiven and forgotten as soon as resolution is reached and not be dwelled upon.

A sure sign of either being flooded with responsibilities or not being well organized is when you‘re slogging away after hours. That is not the path to becoming successful and stress-free; as a manager you need to be more discerning and make more intelligent choices about your workday. It‘s also important to find time to get away from your desk or office at particular times of the day. In the event that you aren‘t making progress, it could well be time to consult with a more senior or experienced co-worker. In doing so you‘ll learn from their experience as well as knowing how to cope with similar situations down the road.

There‘s no question that you need resilience as a manager but if you focus on the right things and seek advice when required, you should find that you can thrive on the stress instead of being weighed down by it.
